Share the news of your child's birth with loved ones through these handmade birth announcements.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide what type of card you want: folded or not; on cream or colored paper; with a pattern or plain; and so on. Order a few more than you think you'll need.

  2. Step 2

Print or engrave the parents' names, the baby's date of birth, time of birth and weight, and any other desired information on the card.

  3. Step 3

List this information, or write it out in more formal style: "Mary and Joe Lee are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emmanuelle, on the 31st day of January, 2000."

  4. Step 4

Print or engrave the baby's full name on a smaller card. If you have twins, place both names on one card.

  5. Step 5

Tie the smaller card to the larger card with pink ribbon for a girl or blue ribbon for a boy. If you have boy and girl twins, use both pink and blue ribbon.

  6. Step 6

Send out cards no more than a month after mother and child are home from the hospital.

Tips & Warnings
  • Similarly, you can send out adoption announcements no matter what the age of the adopted child when he or she joins the household: "Julie and David Green are happy to announce the adoption of their son, Eli, who has come from Korea to join their family."
  • You can include pictures of your baby or copies of your child's footprint with your announcement.

on 11/18/2009 Another great source for creating free birth announcements is www.Amigram.com. People appreciate the opportunity to share their good news without having to let all their relatives and parents’ friends onto their Facebook page, pay for a newspaper listing, or create a website.

Of course, they can also send their announcement to Facebook and Twitter, if they want to spread the news; or if they want to keep their announcement private, they can restrict it so only friends and family see it.
