Tips & Warnings

  • Stock tips are sometimes written by the companies that are trying to sell the stock. Look for a disclosure statement on Web sites and electronic newsletters to see who wrote the information.

  • File any complaints about a suspected scam with the SEC by e-mailing help@sec.gov. Include details such as the Web site, newsgroup, e-mail addresses, names of companies or people, and your own name, address, e-mail address and phone number.

  • Beware of advice dispensed in chat rooms and on bulletin boards. Always check information with reliable sources.

  • There's no way to know whether someone giving you a tip is getting paid for it.

First, investing in emerging markets is risky. Investors have to be aware of the risks involved. Second, greater risks means greater return. And it is true. At Chinavestor we monitor the Chinese markets and more importantly the U.S. listed Chinese stocks or ADRs. We follow them from technical and fundamental point of view. Once a stock looks exciting, we either name it in out momentum stock list - weekly stock recommendation - or if it's fundamentally solid, it may qualify for out monthly growth or conservative portfolios. To sum up my advice for emerging market investors, it is essential to have a trusted online financial adviser. They do the research for you and deliver it right to your inbox.

Don't forget your free public library for books, Standard and Poor's; the reference librarian for company info; and magazines and periodicals. I've even found free current annual reports in the reader-exchange free magazine bin.
