Real wasabi is very rare and expensive in the US, demand constantly outstrips supply. Try to find fresh wasabi (usually not powder) at natural foods stores or on-line. A few higher end sushi bars have o-wasabi if you ask for it, but it's a well guarded secret. Once you have tasted the real stuff, it will be very hard to go back.
