Ground-level ozone and smog can form when cars and household products create unhealthy emissions, making the air more dangerous to breathe. You can help cut down on air pollution by making simple changes in your daily life.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider alternative means of transportation, such as walking or bicyling. Or, try carpooling or telecommuting.

  2. Step 2

If you must drive your car, try to do all your errands at one time, one after the other.

  3. Step 3

Refuel your car in the evening instead of during the day, when heat allows emissions in the air and from gas to form ground-level ozone.

  4. Step 4

    Avoid spilling gas.

  5. Step 5

Keep your car in good condition.

  6. Step 6

Look for merchants who provide delivery services to help reduce car use.

  7. Step 7

Campaign to have your company or office provide a cafeteria or catering service (if it doesn't already have one) so that you don't have to drive from the workplace to eat lunch.

  8. Step 8

Avoid purchasing products that come in aerosol spary cans; try solid, gel and liquid forms instead.

  9. Step 9

Use gas-powered lawn tools as little as possible.

  10. Step 10

Use water-based paints instead of oil and varnishes.

  11. Step 11

Avoid using lighter fluid when barbecuing. Instead, use an electric or chimney briquette starter.

on 10/30/2007 Instead of riding a car to school or work, try walking or riding a bike. Both are great exercise and healthier for the environment.
