You walk all over them, yet they never complain. Here are some ways to show your Oriental rugs you really do care.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Vacuum rugs regularly.

  2. Step 2

    Remove spots and stains immediately.

  3. Step 3

    Stroke the rug fibers with a hairbrush or lift with fingers gently to lift pile.

  4. Step 4

    Hang rugs outside once a month, and shake or beat out dust and dirt using a carpet beater.

  5. Step 5

    Have rugs professionally cleaned once a year.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid leaving heavy furniture in a single spot on the rug for long periods to prevent damage to the pile.

on 11/22/2005 Pet stains, Remember urine stains are difficult to remove from wool and silk. Never use chlorine bleach(it disolves wool fiber) Seek out an established professional and get their advice before using anything stonger than cold water. Otherwise you may damage a valuble piece beynd remedy. KB from Sunny Rd. rug cleaners

on 11/22/2005 Rotate the rug every so often if there is direct sunlight through a window on it. This will help to keep the colors even in the event of fading.

on 11/22/2005 If you sprinkle some dry salt onto your Oriental rug, leave it for five minutes then brush it out, it will bring back the shine of the colors.
