Prolong the life of your cutlery by keeping your knives clean and protected.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Liquid Dish Soap
  • Baking Soda
  • Nylon-backed Srub Sponges
  • Cutlery Sets
  • Dishtowels
  • Kitchen Knives

Step1
Fill the sink with warm water and dish soap to clean stainless steel knives.
Step2
Fill the sink with warm water and baking soda to clean carbon steel knives.
Step3
Keep the water level low, so that you can easily find the knives you're washing without having to wave your hand blindly through the water.
Step4
Rinse any excess food off the knives, then scrub them with a nylon-backed scrub sponge.
Step5
Rinse well.
Step6
Dry the knives with a soft cloth immediately after washing. For safety, hold the cloth at the knife's spine rather than its edge.
Step7
Put knives away after drying.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean knives right after using them, since certain food residues can damage the blades.
  • Cutlery should be stored in a wooden block rather than a silverware drawer so that knives don't damage one another.
  • Don't wash cutlery in an automatic dishwasher; the high temperatures can harm cutting surfaces.
