How to Make Microwave Strawberry Jam

Strawberries begin to ripen as early as May and everbearing strawberries will continue until fall. Check with your produce market manager about when the strawberries in your area will be in season. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Examine jars for cracks or nicks.

      Wash jars, leaving in warm dishwasher or hot water until ready to use.

      Remove stems of berries, wash and drain.

    • 4

      Combine berries, lemon juice, and pectin in 3 quart microwave-safe bowl.

      Cover bowl with plastic wrap.

      Place in microwave and bring to boil on high. (About 7 minutes).

      Remove and stir.

      Cover and cook an additional 3 minutes in microwave.

      Add sugar.

      Place uncovered mixture in microwave and cook until jam slides from a spoon in sheets. (About 1 minute).

      Skim foam from top of jam.

      Pour into jars leaving 1/4-inch head space at top.

      Wipe jar tops with clean, damp cloth.

      Place vacuum seal caps and rings on jars tightly.

      Process in hot-water-bath canner for 10 minutes.

      Cool, label, test seal and store.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not process the jars of jam in the microwave; only in a hot-water-bath canner.
