How to Store Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are more perishable than other types of potatoes. So take care - don't let a bad spot spoil the whole potato!

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Wipe dirt off sweet potatoes, but do not rinse.

  2. Step 2

    Place them in a bag with an apple to prevent budding.

  3. Step 3

    Keep them in a pantry or cellar that is cool and dry.

  4. Step 4

    Store for no more than a month, but if you are keeping sweet potatoes at room temperature, store no longer than a week.

Tips & Warnings
  • Handle potatoes with care as their skin is delicate.
  • Dampness will cause the potatoes to spoil.
  • Refrigeration will cause the inside of the potato to become hard and will affect its taste.
  • Store cooked potato slices or mashed potatoes in the freezer in a tightly sealed container.
