on 3/9/2009 THIS INFORMATION IS INCORRECT!REGISTERED MAIL is used for negotiable items and valuables such as stocks/bonds/jewelry/gold bars etc.It is not for TIME-SENSITIVE material since it takes LONGER than regular mail to get to its destination because it is signed for by every person that touches it. (ie window clerk, dispatch clerk, truck driver, etc.) For TIME SENSITIVE items EXPRESS MAIL is the US Postal Service's expedited service. Certified Mail is for Mail that needs a signature and takes as long as regular First Class mail to get to its destination and will be held up to 15 days if the customer is not at home to sign for it.
