Choose a brand and type of film that best fits your camera. Standard film types are black-and-white and color and range in speed from slow (ISO 100) to fast (ISO 400).

      • 2

Set the film speed on the shutter speed dial, usually located on the top left of the camera.

      • 3

Pull the film tab out of the canister to 3 inches.

      • 4

Open the back of camera by pressing the release usually located on the right side of camera.

      • 5

Place the film canister in the space on the left side of the inside of the camera, flat side up.

      • 6

Pull the film across the length of the camera to the spool on the right side.

      • 7

Insert the film tab into the spool and wind it manually counter-clockwise until the film wraps around the spool. (On an automatic camera, you usually just close the back and press a button.)

      • 8

Close the camera back and advance the film until the frame counter on the top of the camera reads 1.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Make sure that the film counter reads 1 before shooting.

    • Advance the film after each shot.

    • Set the film speed before placing the film in the camera, so you don't forget.

Check the winder on the left side to see if it moves each time you advance the film. If not, you might get a hundred shots from your roll but they won't come out very good!!
