Apply for your visa as far ahead of time as possible to ensure you have it before your departure date.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Contact your sponsoring institution and request that they apply for a visa for you.
Step2
If the institution does not provide visa assistance, contact the consulate of the country where you intend to study. Most consulates are located in Washington, D.C., within area code 202.
Step3
Request a student visa application.
Step4
Fill it out completely when you receive it and photocopy it. Send the original to the consulate and keep the copy for your own records.
Step5
Wait for your visa, keeping in mind that it usually takes from three to five weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also have to pay a processing fee, which will vary widely from country to country.
  • Do not travel on a student visa if you aren't a student. You will be deported if caught.
