How to Kiss

The date's gone well, and now it's almost over. As the minutes tick away, bringing you closer and closer to that awkward moment at the end of the night, you realize you aren't sure what you'll do when the time arrives. You want to instigate some lip-to-lip magic, but you aren't sure of how to kiss him/her. Here are some tips on the how and when of kissing.

From Quick Guide: Start Dating Again
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Breath Fresheners
  1. Step 1

Before you even think about how to kiss your date, ask yourself whether or not you should go in for the kiss. Look for positive body language, such as eye contact, uncrossed arms and head tilted toward you.

  2. Step 2

If the signs are there, then lean in and do it. Waiting just makes the moment awkward.

  3. Step 3

Maintain eye contact as you close in for the kiss. Try not to close your eyes until after making lip contact.

  4. Step 4

Tilt your head slightly to one side to avoid bumping noses.

  5. Step 5

Press your lips gently against your date's. Try not to suck his or her breath away just yet.

  6. Step 6

Release the kiss and look into your date's eyes. If he or she isn't looking back at you the same way, then you probably shouldn't continue.

  7. Step 7

But if your date appears willing, then lean in and kiss your date again. There's more flexibility to this second kiss.

  8. Step 8

Explore - softly kiss your date's neck, ears and eyelashes. By this time, you'll have a better feel for how and where to kiss your date.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the kissing simple for now. Use a soft touch that will calm your date, especially if this kiss is the first one.

on 10/30/2009 A New York State University team quizzed over 1,000 students, finding women place a big emphasis on kissing. They use kissing as a way of assessing the recipient as a potential partner, and later to maintain intimacy and to check the status of a relationship. But men placed less importance on it, using it to increase the likelihood of sex, Evolutionary Psychology reported.

on 8/2/2009 smartest thing you can do is a peck on the lips!
(Note: a peck on the cheek won't work nearly as well)

It doesn't put you or them in much of a compromising position so you can get out of there quickly if things go wrong
"Oh sorry. It was just a small peck" bla bla bla

Sometimes if you misjudge their happiness for surprise and say sorry they'll say No it's fine and a proper kiss will begin!

Most of the time though if you feel the peck on the lips is right, you'll notice that they're okay in their reaction and you'll be a happier person for it.
