Virtual dates can be romantic, enjoyable and revealing. Have fun but remember that an online rendezvous is not a substitute for a face-to-face encounter.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find a potential romantic partner in cyberspace.

  2. Step 2

Suggest an online date when the friendship leans toward romance.

  3. Step 3

Pick a place, a time, and a situation: a candlelight dinner in Rome, for example.

  4. Step 4

Share the decision-making process by "building" the date together.

  5. Step 5

Rendezvous in a private chat room at the appointed hour.

  6. Step 6

Take turns describing the surroundings and ambiance: food, wine, decor, music.

  7. Step 7

Use humor to overcome shyness and embarrassment.

  8. Step 8

Be romantic and accommodating; make your date a memorable, revealing fantasy.

  9. Step 9

Plan another virtual date if you both enjoyed yourselves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take notes on your partner's likes and dislikes.
  • Chat for a while at the end of the date about the experience.
  • Allow your partner to arrange an entire date, then you take a turn.
  • Think about what you learned about your cyber-lover after logging off.
  • Virtual dates can be entrancing, but they can also develop into a mutual obsession.
  • An online rendezvous can intensify the power of "instant intimacy." Do not mistake the warm feelings that come from a successful cyber-date with real love. The "L" word should not be used seriously until after several REAL dates.

on 11/22/2005 There are plenty of fun things to do together online without resorting to imagining or playing out a real life date. Try AIM games, Yahoo games, and Shockwave games. AIM checkers, Yahoo pool, literati (Yahoo's version of scrabble) and Shockwave's InkLink (like Pictionary) are all lots of fun. Checkers is aways two-people-only and provides plenty of time to chat, while InkLink is fast paced, flirtatious, and lots of fun.

Or try exchanging things you've written to get to know each other better, draw each other's requests on MS paint for a fun, silly time. Or browse sites with sex tips and share the links with the juicy stuff to turn up the heat. And don't forget the digital cameras and webcams!

on 11/22/2005 My boyfriend captivated my heart by taking me on virtual dates using pictures he'd taken on his vacations in national and state parks. He took me on a tour of Yellowstone and on a virtual hike. He'd email me the pictures in sequence, and in an instant message give me the tour. He has also sent me virtual gifts (there are web sites for this, look them up), and he likes to send me a text 'rose' in color (we're on AOL where you can change the color of your email text). It looks like this ---{--@
