Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Apply eye shadow and eyeliner, allowing it to dry before curling your lashes. Mascara is always applied after curling the lashes to avoid lash breakage and smearing.
Step2
Ensure that your lashes are clean and dry.
Step3
Open the curler and place your upper lashes inside its mouth. Close your eye slightly, then open it; all of the lashes should move into the curler's mouth. Always hold the eyelash curler so that the mouth is parallel to your lashes.
Step4
Move the curler closer to the eye until the tool comes to the base of the lashes, but not over the skin of the eyelid.
Step5
Keep the eye open and slowly close the curler. Your eyelashes should fan out evenly across the upper bar. If at any time you feel pinching, readjust the curler.
Step6
Hold the closed curler for a slow count of five, keeping your hand and face steady. Repeat for additional volume.
Step7
Repeat with the other eye.

on 8/31/2006 Put your hair dryer on a warm setting and heat your eyelash curler for about 5 seconds. Test the temperature on your finger first to make sure it isn't too hot.

on 8/17/2006 Instead of using mascara to make your eyelashes look darker, put some Vaseline on them. Put a little on your fingertip and then rub onto your eyelash. It makes the lashes stay curled and look darker.

on 8/8/2006 Put your curler in hot water for 3 seconds, and use it to curl your lashes as usual. Please take note: feel the temperature with your hand first before you use on your lashes.

on 6/30/2006 First, curl the lashes as close to the eyelid as possible; being careful not to pinch the eyelid. Then curl again with the base of the curler in the middle of the lash. Finally, curl the tips and apply your mascara.
This is perfect for daytime, work, etc., because it doesn't make your eyelashes look fake.

on 1/30/2006 I have found by far the best heated eyelash curler, that takes the least amount of time and work, is the Hot Lashes heated eyelash curler. It only takes a few seconds to heat up and when I curled my lashes, the curl lasted till the next day. By far the best I have found.

on 11/22/2005 Curling your eyelashes with a metal curler sometimes isn't enough by itself. For really super volume, curl, and thickness, you may need three steps. The first, of course, is to heat a metal curler with a lighter or blow dryer and work from the base of your lashes up to the tips, pumping the curler as you move up the length of the lashes. You should get in 4 or 5 pumps of the curler before you get to the tips. Then try one of the new lash-extending mascaras (I use Maybelline XXL or Loreal Double Extend). These usually are made up of two parts: a lengthening base and a mascara. Do not use the actual mascara, only use the lengthening base, as the mascara itself tends to be cheaper and not very effective. While lashes are still wet with the base, apply a mascara with a curved brush. I use Maybelline Great Lash, but you can buy regular mascara and a spoolie, which you can bend to form a curve yourself.

on 11/22/2005 For a more natural and longer lasting curl, a spoon will do the trick. Use a round spoon, such as a soup spoon. Place your thumb in the belly of the spoon and your index over the arch. Put the base of your lashes in between the belly of the spoon and your thumb, swipe the spoon through until you hit the tips.

on 11/22/2005 With a blow dryer, dry the curler about two inches away, and then curl your lashes. This technique doesn't last long, but it does last a while. Putting on mascara after curling is also a good idea for a long-lasting curl, and your lashes will look longer, too. Work on curling your eyelashes in front of a mirror.

on 11/22/2005 I bought the Hot Touch eyelash curler which is heated (from QVC.com). It took a little getting used to, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It curls your lashes and the curl lasts.

on 11/22/2005 If you do not have a heated curler, try running your curler under hot water before curling your lashes. Just make sure to check that it is not too hot and dry it off throughly before usage. Good luck!

on 11/22/2005 I have straight-as-a-board eyelashes and I have found that using waterproof mascara after curling keeps them curled without making them straight again like regular mascara.

on 11/22/2005 Why risk pulling out your eyelashes? Simply press your curved finger around the nearly dry eyelashes and wait until completely dry. Just remember -- don't poke your eye out!

on 11/22/2005 It's true that a warm curler works better. But if you don't have a hairdryer handy or just don't want to bother, breathing several times on the metal curler works just as well, plus you don't need cords and electricity!

on 11/22/2005 Use a blow dryer to warm up the eyelash curler before you use it. The curl will be more defined and last longer!

on 6/30/2006 I too have become a big fan of the Hotlashes heated eyelash curler. The best. So easy, so fast, so effective. I do not have to heat mine with a blow dryer. I do other parts of my makeup while this little machine warms my eyelash curler. The pad is rounded, so I get a nice curl that lasts. My searching is finally over. I am a big eyelash curler junkie, I've tried them all. I tell you; Hotlashes is it.
