The odometer demons lie! You just bought your car yesterday! How in the world does it already have 50,000 miles? OK, so it's been several years, but it still feels like new. Even so, it's probably time for a good inspection.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Automotive Repair Manual
  • Motor Oil
  • Oil Filters
  • Basic Auto Emergency Kits
  • Car Creepers

Step1
Perform a general tune-up - check the plugs, plug wires, belts, coolant, filters and timing.
Step2
Change the oil and oil filter.
Step3
Check the tires for wear. Replace as needed.
Step4
Inspect the brakes. Service as necessary.
Step5
Change windshield wiper blades.
Step6
Touch up any scratched paint or minor body damage.
Step7
Check for rust.

Tips & Warnings

  • A mechanic can also check the engine for wear, including its compression, pumps, electrical systems and injectors, and look for any exhaust or oil leaks.
  • Modern cars should perform almost perfectly at 50,000 miles. Many mechanics do not advise a tune-up until 100,000 miles.
