For a better scuba experience, buy diving fins that are appropriate for your foot size, skill level and the location of your underwater journey.

1
Decide whether you want an open- or closed-heel fin.
-
2
Select a closed-heel fin if you swim in warm water, and are never going to enter from a rocky or coral covered coastline.
-
-
3
Choose a neoprene dive boot and an open-heel fin, sized to fit over the boot, for entry over rocks and coral.
-
4
Look for "power fins." These have a series of vented slots in the blade of the fin. They redirect the flow of water more efficiently, are less tiring to use and are thought to provide more thrust for the effort.

Tips & Warnings
Comfort is of primary importance in fin selection.
Closed-heel fins are generally less expensive, and can be very comfortable if fitted correctly.
An open-heel fin with an adjustable strap can be easier to fit, but it doesn't offer the same amount of protection for your foot, and the strap can chafe.
The dive boots provide a level of comfort far greater than fins alone. The only drawback is the fins will be too big to wear on your bare feet.

Open heeled fins are not meant to be worn without booties. A good pair of booties and open heeled fins are worth the investment. -
