Clean a Baby's Eyes, Ears and Nose

A daily sponging is all that's really required to keep your baby's eyes, nose and ears fresh and clean.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Washcloths
  • Cotton Balls And Swabs
  1. Step 1

Dip a clean, soft baby washcloth or cotton ball into warm water and squeeze it to remove any excess water. (Since baby skin is very sensitive, avoid using soap on the face.)

  2. Step 2

Sing or talk softly to your baby to distract her as you clean.

  3. Step 3

Use the cloth or cotton ball to clean the corners of your baby's eyes, wiping gently from the inside corner to the outside edge of each eye.

  4. Step 4

Use a soft, damp washcloth or baby wipe to remove mucus around your baby's nose, wiping gently around each nostril.

  5. Step 5

Use a washcloth to wipe the outer part of your baby's ears, but not inside. Check behind each ear, and wipe away any dirt or debris.

Tips & Warnings
  • Earwax keeps ears clean and naturally moves outward. But if wax buildup seems excessive or doesn't move outward, talk to your pediatrician.
  • Never put anything inside your baby's eyes, nose or ears. Cotton swabs or fingers could rupture the eardrums or make the walls of your baby's ears bleed.
