on 11/22/2005 The best way to teach a trick is to figure out how to stimulate the dog to perform the behavior on his own. Tugging on one side of the collar makes the other leg pop up. This teaches the dog to shake hands. To teach the bow catch the dog right after a nap

on 11/22/2005 Take a treat and using one hand bring it down to the floor like when you taught your dog "down." Use the other hand to support under their belly so they don't lie down. Gradually fade out hands until you have just a voice command.

on 11/22/2005 Make sure your puppy sees you take a treat. Then put both hands (closed) behind your back and bring them forward and say, "Which hand is it?" Duke always points with his paw at the hand he thinks the treat is in. He guesses most times.
