No special care is needed for an uncircumcised penis. In fact, when bathing your baby, the less you do, the better.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wash the baby - including his genital area - with soap and water.

  2. Step 2

Teach your son to retract the foreskin, when he is old enough to bathe himself and the foreskin is retractable.

  3. Step 3

Rinse the head of the penis and the inside fold of the foreskin with warm water, and slip the foreskin back into place over the head of the penis.

Tips & Warnings
  • Retraction can occur a few days after birth - or months or years later.
  • Forced retraction or manipulation of the foreskin for cleaning could cause swelling, bleeding and pain. The foreskin also might get caught around the penis and obstruct the flow of urine.
