Highlights create multidimensional color, movement and texture to your hair, but coloring your hair is a science. There are certain precautions that you should take in order to get the results you want because it is all too easy to over process your hair. Fortunately, you can use a few tricks of the trade to help fix overdone hair highlights.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Correct hair that is too blonde in a certain spot by choosing a semi permanent or temporary hair color that is one to two shades darker than the overdone hair highlights color.

  2. Step 2

Stay with a medium golden shade of hair color to fix overdone hair highlights that result in hair that's too blonde in one spot. If you choose a color that is too ash, your hair could come out green. If the color you choose is too warm then your hair could wind up too brassy.

  3. Step 3

Mix the color you choose by hand until it reaches a consistent color. If only a small section of hair has overdone highlights that you want to correct, apply the color using a brush or smaller tool, like a clean mascara wand, to fix the overdone highlights.

  4. Step 4

Apply the color directly to your hair using a brush, mascara wand or your fingers to control where and how highlighted a section of hair will end up.

  5. Step 5

Allow the overdone hair highlights corrective coloring to process according to the product directions. Shampoo, rinse and condition your hair and you will now have successfully added low lights to your hair.

Tips & Warnings
