Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Long, thick stick
  • Pocketknife
  • 4 pieces of letter-size paper

Step1
Search for a stick that is at about 1 1/2 inches thick and roughly 5 feet long. A tree branch will work perfectly because it is easy to carve and manipulate. Make sure the stick is straight.
Step2
Remove the bark from the stick with a pocketknife or something similar. Cut off the leaves and twigs that may protrude from the stick. Smooth out the stick by slicing off any nubs.
Step3
Dry out the moisture in the stick. You can easily do this by laying it out in the sun for the day. Be sure to bring it in at night so that it doesn't retain or gain any more moisture from the morning dew.
Step4
Make four spearheads using a letter size piece of paper for each one. Fold the paper as if you want to fold it in half, leaving 3 inches protruding from the bottom. Fold the top right edge down to the bottom, then take the left edge and fold it so the outer edge touches the other fold. Fold it into a triangle then fold it up and over, tucking the edge into the fold.
Step5
Repeat the paper process four times to make four spearheads. Place two of the paper claws on each end of the stick to make a double-sided spear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to monitor the children when they play with the spear. Although it isn't deadly, it can still cause injury to the eyes.
