How to Buy a Hillman Minx
The Hillman Minx was one of the best liked British cars of the pre- and post-war era. The Rootes group produced the Hillman Minx in various models over a period that lasted almost four decades. The cars are widely available today, but if you're considering buying there are some things you should know.

Focus in on the kind of Hillman Minx you want to buy by breaking the car into the pre-WWII models, WWII models and post-WWII models. The pre-WWII models are the most antique in design and construction, as models begin with the 1932 steel body and end with the roomier "New Minx" that was more accommodating to drivers with a larger trunk and rounded edges. Wartime Minx models are simple, while the postwar cars are more diverse in design and function.

Check the mileage on any Hillman you're considering since many of the Hillman Minx models, especially later models (from the late 1960s and 1970s) were known for their ability to run endlessly. You need to make sure, as best you can, that the reading on the odometer is the original reading by first having your mechanic examine the car to see if the mileage number and wear and tear are consistent.

4
Make sure that the car has or can pass emissions inspections if you plan to drive the Hillman Minx you buy. Some Hillman Minx cars have been refitted with exhaust systems that can pass emissions tests but most have not. So, take the exhaust system and emissions rating into account when it comes time to pay for the car since you might be putting in a significant amount of money, even if the car runs smoothly.
