Things You'll Need:
- car
- lots of money
- gas
- small notepad
- pen or pencil
- and/or Capbobb's E-Z Budget Record

-
Step 1
So you decided to keep some records to compute your vehicle's gas mileage. Keep a small notepad and pen or pencil handy in your vehicle.
-
Step 2
Fill-up your vehicle's gas tank and write down the mileage. DON'T write down the gallons purchased this time. The reason is, because the gas you put in this time is the replacement amount used for mileage already on your vehicle. Now you have a full tank of gas and a record of your "starting" milelage to benchmark a consumption record starting point. When you need to get gas again, follow the instructions in Step 3.
-
Step 3
Fill-up your vehicle's gas tank, write down the gallons you purchased AND the mileage. Subtract the mileage in step 2 FROM the mileage you wrote down is this Step 3 fill-up. The difference is your "elapsed mileage" between fill-ups. Divide the "elapsed mileage" by the gallons you recorded for this fill-up and the answer (quotient) will be your vehicle's miles per gallon.
