The National Basketball Association demands a lot of its players. These top athletes demand a great deal more out of the equipment they use, especially the backboard. A qualified NBA backboard meets tight specifications and needs of today's players.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Know that a qualified NBA backboard is created from a polycarbonate material. This looks like glass but is actually much lighter. For safety reasons, the NBA has not used a glass backboard in decades.
Step2
Check that the hoop is a breakaway. Only qualified NBA backboards have a spring-loaded basketball rim that will bend downward when force is applied. This keeps the backboards from shattering when dunked upon.
Step3
Measure your new rim to make sure it meets up with qualified NBA standards. A regulation NBA backboard will be rectangular shaped and 54 x 32 inches in diameter.
Step4
Look for the official NBA logo on the backboard. Only qualified NBA products have the logo. This is a good indication your backboard is official.
Step5
Choose a backboard without a color team theme. Many backboards offer logos of your favorite team, but only pick a backboard that is see-through with white outlines. This is a qualified NBA backboard.
