How to Recycle a CPU
Technology is constantly changing and newer, faster products replace the old. When you bring home a shiny new computer, the old one has to find a new home. Often though, people don't know what to do with that chunky old CPU. Rather than put it out on the curb, recycle it.

Check to see if your computer is upgradeable before rushing out to buy the latest model. If additional RAM, hard drive space or memory could satisfy your needs, there may not be a reason to spend more money on a new computer.

Consider donating your outdated computer to a local charity. There are several throughout the country that take your old computer and modify it to give to needy children and schools.

Remove all programs and data from the computer. Do not leave personal data on the machine for someone else to find.

Research the different recycling programs that major computer companies have. Apple, Dell, Gateway and many others all have programs in place to help you deal with your electronic waste. Some companies even have a trade in program that allows you to use your old computer toward the purchase of a new one.

Find recycling companies who deal in electronics. If the company you bought your computer from doesn't have it's own recycling program, find one on your own. A simple computer or yellow page search will lead you to companies across the country such as E-Tech Recycling that can help.
