Installing a car stereo in a boat increases the entertainment factor for everyone aboard. Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Marine grade head unit
  • Waterproof speakers
  • Outdoor speaker wire
  • Silicon caulk
  1. Step 1

Select a head unit made for marine or outdoor use. These radios include a plastic face cover and internal components better suited to the wet nature of life on a boat. Look for units that have options you desire such as satellite radio, CD or even a CD changer.

  2. Step 2

Purchase outdoor speakers that are waterproof and durable. Canister speakers are a popular choice as they allow mounting in a variety of places. Canister speakers have the added benefit of providing deeper bass and richer sound overall as well.

  3. Step 3

Mount the radio in a position easily accessible but out of the way of moving passengers. Consider the dash or side storage areas for installation.

  4. Step 4

Use pre-made speaker mounts if available or create your own. Select a spot that is out of harms way but allows music to reach all areas of the boat when moving at speed.

  5. Step 5

Run outdoor rated speaker and power wires along the hidden areas of the hull. Coat connections with silicon caulk to prevent water from damaging exposed wire.

  6. Step 6

Load up the CD player and test the system before setting out. Set the balance and fade controls to suit your taste and enjoy a day of wet fun filled with the music soundtrack of your choice.
