Bookshelves are decorated in a variety of ways. Hide the clutter and chaos that may reign on your bookshelf with curtains. Not only will it hide the clutter, but it also adds another decorative element to a room. This bookshelf takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 (2 x 2-inch) boards
  • 1/2-inch plywood, enough for all shelves
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Saw
  • Hammer and nails
  • 3 curtain rods
  • Curtains
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  1. Step 1

Measure the desired height and width of the bookshelf. Cut the 2 x 2-inch boards to match the desired length for the height of the shelf. You need four pieces cut to size. These boards make the legs of the shelf.

  2. Step 2

Measure and cut the shelves out of the 1/2-inch plywood. These shelves match the width of whatever size you need for the shelving unit.

  3. Step 3

Nail the 2-inch legs to the plywood to make the bookshelves. Cut 1/2-inch notches into the legs, to make the unit sturdier. Start with the bottom shelf. Measure 3 to 5 inches between the shelves. Place the top shelf 1 inch from the top of the legs.

  4. Step 4

Purchase curtains for the sides and front panels of the bookshelf. Try to find curtains that are the same height of the shelves. If you can't find the desired length, purchase curtains that are longer than the shelves.

  5. Step 5

Slide the curtains onto the curtain rods. Place the rods between the top of the front and side legs of the bookshelf.

  6. Step 6

Cut and hem the curtain's length as needed, using the scissors, needle and thread.
