Cooking once a month not only saves time, but it also saves money. With once a month cooking, you prepare meals ahead of time and freeze them. Once you start cooking once a month, you will enjoy the extra money you have. You will also enjoy less time spent at the grocery store and in the kitchen.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Heavy duty foil
Step1
Search your local grocery store mailers. Make a list of items that are on sale at each store. Take advantage of rebates offered by the stores and the manufacturers. Use coupons to help you save even more money when shopping.
Step2
Make a 30-day menu for your family. Plan meals around the sale items at the different grocery stores. Purchase items that will make double-duty dinners. For example, plan pork chops for dinner one night and pork fried rice the next night with the leftovers.
Step3
Shop for all of your groceries. Do all your grocery shopping preferably the day before you plan to do all your cooking. It's best to do all the shopping in one day, as it will be easier to stick to your budget and you will save money on gas.
Step4
Save money on foil pans by using inexpensive foil instead. Line a casserole dish, pan or large bowl with foil before filling it with your dinner and place it in the freezer. Once the meal has frozen, remove the foil wrapped food and place it back in the freezer. This way you won't have repeatedly buy foil pans.
Step5
By following the once a month cooking strategy, you'll always have meals on hand. This will cut down on the last minute panic of not having anything for dinner, therefore causing you to rush out for expensive fast food or takeout. With this plan, you'll spend a lot less on eating out.
