How to Use Neem Oil for Flea Control on Pets

Neem oil has many skin care benefits. It relieves dry skin, soothes itchy irritated skin, and improves overall skin health by combating bacterial infections. In addition to being an anti-bacterial, Neem is also an anti-viral, anti-septic and anti-fungal. Studies have also found that Neem oil is highly effective for use in flea control on pets.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a commercially sold Neem oil flea repellent spray for use on dogs and cats. Spray your pet every 7 to 10 days with the Neem oil during flea and tick season.

    • 2

Make your own Neem oil flea spray by mixing 1 ounce of Neem oil with 2 ounces of organic white vinegar and 5 ounces of water. Shake the bottle to mix the ingredients before. Spray your pet well with the mixture every 7 to 10 days and brush him after spraying to work the solution through his fur and to his skin.

    • 3

Spray your pet's bedding with the same solution. It is a good idea to spray the bedding every 7 to 10 days when you spray your pet.

    • 4

Add several drops of Neem oil to the shampoo you use when you bathe your pet. Do not mix the oil into the entire bottle of shampoo in advance of using because it looses its effectiveness over time after it has been mixed with water, and most shampoos contain water. Mix it fresh each time you are bathing your pet.

    • 5

Pour a small amount of Neem oil into your hand and massage it full strength into your pets fur and down to her skin. Not only does this work for controlling fleas, but it also keeps his coat shiny and healthy.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your pet has sensitive skin, dilute the Neem oil with olive oil in a 1:10 ratio before massaging it into her fur and skin.
