How to Accelerate a DUI Case

DUI cases are among the more complex of traffic crimes heard by judges. It is not uncommon for DUI cases to be drawn out, if the plaintiff or defendant needs extra time to acquire documents or additional information. It is also quite possible and easy to accelerate a DUI case.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Contact the court and find out who the judge is who is assigned to your case. Find that judge's phone number, fax number and mailing address.
Step2
Plead guilty or not guilty immediately to the court by typing a letter to the judge of your case indicating that you would like to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty and that you would be following up with the clerk of courts to schedule the next step of the DUI case.
Step3
Call the clerk of courts at the traffic court you're involved with a day or two after sending the fax to the judge. Ask whether anything else needs to be done or whether you can be sentenced immediately in your case, if you plead guilty. If you plead not guilty, ask to set up a date and time for your trial. You can often have the date of your trial set for a time within a few business days.
Step4
Waive your rights to have an extended trial in the case by writing another letter to the judge and indicate that you want a trial by judge and not a drawn-out jury trial.
Step5
Go to your trial on the date that you have set for your DUI case. If you are found guilty, ask to be sentenced right there to speed up the DUI case.
