Step 1
Watch your drinking habit. If you go out drinking, have a designated driver who is not drinking. If you are unable to find a designated sober driver, call a cab to take you home when you are done drinking.
-
Step 2
Seek professional help with your alcohol problem. If you are in a situation in which you are trying to avoid a felony DUI, you have a problem with drinking and driving. Locate a professional substance abuse treatment center through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A link is in the Resources section.

Step 3
Drink non-alcoholic drinks. In most major cities, there are clubs popping up that serve only non-alcoholic drinks like fancy coffees, bottled teas and soda. These clubs cater to people who have drinking problems, who want to go out and have fun but don't want to get a felony DUI.
-
Step 4
Talk with your loved ones about your effort to avoid a felony DUI. If you talk about the issues you're experiencing, you may be able to work them out. When you are experiencing things that can cause you to want to drink, and especially drink and drive, talk about what you're feeling with those closest to you. They likely want to see you succeed.

Step 5
Make avoiding a felony DUI a major mission in your life. If you put this goal above all else and set your mind to it, you can accomplish it. Beating a drinking and driving problem is not easy, but it can be beaten.
