It's important that the bookkeeper of a flower shop keep careful records in order to monitor profits, losses, income and expenses. Keeping the books for a flower shop requires organization, a knowledge of the floral business and some basic math skills.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Write down income from every order. Each order needs to be documented by recording how much each order was for and keeping track of who each order belonged to and what specifically was sold.
Step2
Maintain different books for in-house pickups, deliveries and large orders. It is important for a flower shop to watch in which areas it is creating the most business, so it can look at how that compares with other flower shops and make adjustments accordingly.
Step3
Denote every expense for the flower shop. Every time a shipment of flowers or supplies comes in, note which flowers cost how much and what amounts were spent on which supplies. This will allow you to keep proper records in case there is a mix-up on an order. This will also allow you to watch spending trends for the flower shop.
Step4
Compute the balance of various accounts for the flower shop daily at a minimum. Tabulate expenses and income daily and add that to the overall general ledger. Watching your balance allows you to budget your expenses carefully.
Step5
Add payroll expenses to your books on each payday. Include payments to delivery drivers, flower prep workers, cashiers and managers. These payments should be listed on your books as how much was spent before taxes. Keep a separate record of tax payments and compute those payments quarterly.
