Things You'll Need:
- SR-22 form
-
Step 1
Complete all of the programs ordered by the judge. Judges presiding over DUI cases always recommend some sort of alcohol awareness program for the offender to attend. The completion of these classes or counseling sessions are required in order to get your driver's license back.
-
Step 2
Contact your car insurance company. You need to ask the agent if your state requires a SR-22 form to show that you have the proper insurance coverage. If your state does, request that they fill it out for you and submit it to the DMV or Secretary of State's office. See Resources for states that require an SR-22 Form.
-
Step 3
Attend your hearing. Your state may require you to attend a driver's license hearing before reinstating your driver's license. This is generally required if your DUI is a second offense or more or if you are a minor.
-
Step 4
Pay the reinstatement fee. These fees vary from state to state so you have to check with your local DMV or Secretary of State's office. This fine must be paid in order for you to get your license back.
