Between blow drying, coloring, treating, cutting and just plain living, your hair can get severely damaged quite easily. Enter deep conditioning--a process by which a heavy conditioner is applied to your hair. It is then allowed to rest for a certain amount of time before being washed off, thus restoring that shine. Here's how to deep condition fine hair.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Purchase a deep conditioner at your local supermarket or drug store. This is where you'll need to do a bit of self diagnosis, as there are a myriad of deep conditioners on the market. Look for a conditioner that meets the criteria of your hair. Questions you'll ask yourself are things such as if your hair is dry, if it's been colored, or if it has been permed. These questions will narrow down your choices until you find the deep conditioner that is specifically right for you.
Step2
Take a shower and shampoo your hair as you normally would. Since you have fine hair, it is recommended that you use a shampoo that is targeted for fine hair as well. Also avoid washing your hair more than once a day.
Step3
Squeeze any excess water from your hair after the shampooing. Think of squeezing excess water out of a rag. You want your hair wet but not soaking, as otherwise the deep conditioner will not be able to penetrate the hair.
Step4
Apply the deep conditioner over your entire head of hair, liberally.
Step5
Wait for five minutes and allow the deep conditioner to work. If the shower is still on, avoid having your hair come in contact with the water, as it will wash the deep conditioner off.
Step6
Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water. It is important not to let the water get too hot. Otherwise it will burn your scalp and dry out the hair you just deep conditioned.
Step7
Repeat once a week until your hair has returned to the shine and thickness you desire.

Tips & Warnings

  • In between the deep conditioning, you should use a restorative conditioner to aid with fine hair.
