Remove heated air from your kitchen by installing a ducted hood range. The standard size ranges remove about 600 cubic feet of air per minute. Follow the steps below to install a wire ducted hood above your range.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ducted range hood
  • Reciprocating saw
  • Plastic roof cement
  • Caulking gun
  • Caulk
  • Multipurpose tool
  • Power cable
  • Cable ripper
  • Wire connector
  1. Step 1

Read the manufacturer's directions to see suggestions for where to install the exhaust duct on the outside wall. Use a reciprocating saw to make a hole in the wall.

  2. Step 2

Use the saw to cut the same size hole in the cabinet that you're installing above the range hood. Put the cabinet and ductwork in place.

  3. Step 3

Install a metal roof cap if you're allowing the ducted range hood to push air to the roof. Seal the roof cap to the roof shingles with plastic roof cement.

  4. Step 4

Prepare a wall cap if you're installing the range hood through the wall. Use the caulking gun to apply caulk to the entire outside border of the cap.

  5. Step 5

Locate the manufacturer's fasteners that came with the ducted range hood. Push up the hood against the bottom of the wall cabinet. Use the fasteners to attach it. Install the grease filter panels and the light bulbs using the multipurpose tool.

  6. Step 6

Pull a power cable through the range hood's electrical box. Use the cable ripper to strip the cable of its sheathing. Also remove the insulation from the wires.

  7. Step 7

Use the wire connector to bring the wires bother. Then refer to your specific range hood's manufacturer directions for the remaining wire connections.
