Marigolds add splashes of bright color to any garden. They also can be used for beauty treatments, especially for mature or dry skin, or as a hair lightener for blonde or brown hair. Combine marigolds with some household ingredients for an effective yet inexpensive beauty boost.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Soak in a stimulating and moisturizing marigold bath. Combine a cup of dried marigold blossoms with 2 tsp. of olive oil and add it to warm running water.
Step2
Tone your face with a mild marigold toner. Place 2 tsp. of marigold essential oil in a clean jar or bottle, and add 4 tbsp. of witch hazel. Dip a cotton ball into the toner and smooth it over your face. Store the mixture in the refrigerator.
Step3
Bring out red highlights in brown or blonde hair. Crush about 1/2 cup of marigold blossoms and simmer them in a non-metal pot with 3 cups of water for about 20 minutes. Pour the marigold rinse over just shampooed hair, catch it in a large bowl or basin, and pour it back over your hair several times. Continue daily until you achieve the desired highlights.
Step4
Make a moisturizing marigold facial. Mix the blooms of one marigold with 1 tbsp. of pure honey and 1 tbsp. of whole milk. Smooth it on the face and leave it for about 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. For best results, repeat once or twice weekly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before using marigold beauty treatments, apply the treatment to a small patch of skin on your wrist to test for rashes or other allergic reactions.
