Nobilis offers up worlds of opportunity to those willing to navigate a diceless roleplaying game's mechanics and the more than usual challenge of developing a character. Fortunately, you have this handy guide to get you through the difficulties of character generation. Read on to learn how to create a character in the Nobilis RPG.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Feel out the type of human you want to be. Even if you're playing gods, they were once mortals, so there should be some idea as to what they were like in life to give depth to the character.
Step2
Decide on the nature of your godhood. Since you want an interesting game, you should pick something that isn't so narrow as to be next to useless, such as cross-stitching cartoon characters, and is actually interesting to you personally. Select something that you feel like researching.
Step3
Distribute the amount of development points given by the Hollyhock God (Game Master), the default being 25, among the four attributes. Consider that attributes cost the most to improve once game play begins. Since each attribute point costs three development points, you'll have some left over.
Step4
Consider taking handicaps. These should be appropriate to the estate of your imperator and your character, if possible. Maintain focus on your character.
Step5
Pick up some gifts, an extra domain or some miracle points. This should round up most everything and leave you with no development points.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ideally all of your character creation decisions should be based on the desired character. Look over the description of the attributes to make certain that you're getting what you need for your character.
  • Talk to the Hollyhock God often about what you're thinking for the direction of your character's development and how it fits into the game.
  • Your fellow players are also a great source of information, particularly regarding what they're doing with their points. This can, and should, effect your point distribution.
  • The Nobilis RPG offers more player control over the setting than any other game. Take advantage of this by exploring metaphor for your Nobilis estate when designing the chancel.
  • Don't be afraid of handicapping your character. Not only do you get extra development points, but you also receive deeper characterization.
