How to Download Torrents

One of the most popular and efficient methods to download to large files on the Internet is with a torrent application. This method of download is different than a regular download, but anyone can download torrents if he follows a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Locate and install one the popular torrent download software applications. The three most popular programs are uTorrent, BitTorrent and Azureus. See the Resource section for more information. Each has a guide for installation, so use that information to properly download and install the torrent software program.

2. Visit the websites that facilitates these torrents downloads. There are many different websites available where you can find a torrent you want to download. Some of the most popular sites are Mininova, Pirate Bay and Torrent Finder. See the Resources section for more information.

3. Search these sites for the torrent file you wish to download. Usually you type the name of the file in a search function on the torrent site. You can just browse the torrent files available if you don't know which file you want to download.

4. Check each torrent for any negative ratings. Some torrents files can contain viruses or malware. Other users on these sites usually post comments about the torrent if it contains a virus or malware. These negative comments will usually appear as a link or as text on the torrent download page. It is very important that you are cautious when downloading these torrents, as you could infect your computer with a virus.

5. Click on the torrent link once you find a torrent you want to download. Then a dialogue box should appear, and you want to choose "Open" from this dialogue box.

6. Start the torrent download by choosing the torrent program from the application list after you open the torrent file download link. If the torrent program does not appear on the application list, select "Browse" from the application list dialogue box. Then locate the torrent application and select it to begin the download.

7. Select the file location on the hard drive you want to store the download and then choose "OK."

8. Wait for the torrent download to finish. Once it finishes, find the download folder you chose in the previous step and unzip the torrent file. To unzip the torrent, select any of the zipped torrent files and right-click. From the right-click menu, choose the "Unzip" or "Extract Here" option to complete the download.

9. Open the downloaded file to make sure it works correctly. You may want to perform a virus scan on this file before you use it just to be safe.
