Determine how much memory you need on your PS3. Four different PS3 models are available. One contains 20 GB of hard drive memory. The others contain 40, 60 and 80 GB of hard drive memory. If you want to store many games and movies on your PS3, you may be better suited to buy one with a larger hard drive.

Decide what color of PS3 you want. Most PS3's come in black. But the 40GB model also is available in gun-metal gray. Asian and Japan models are also available in ceramic white and satin silver.

Choose whether you want your PS3 to have a built-in wi-fi connectivity. The 20GB model of the PS3 do not come with this feature. The larger ones do.

Consider whether you think you want to import movies and photos into your PS3 using a digital media card. Flash card readers only come installed in the 60 and 80 GB model PS3's.

Ask yourself whether you want to play PS2 games on your PS3. Not all models allow you to play older PS2 games. If you want to play PS2 games on your PS3, buy one of the 20, 60 or 80 GB model units.
