The bunny hop is exactly what it sounds like--getting your two wheels in the air at one time. This trick is usually done on a BMX-style bike, because it is low to the ground and light enough to jump. But a bunny hop can be achieved on any size bike if you have the right momentum and a strong enough body.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pedal up to a point going at least 5 miles per hour. Put your pedals flat and squeeze your stand up off the seat as you lean forward and then backwards quickly, pulling up on the frame at the same time. Timing is very important to get a good bunny hop in motion.

  2. Step 2

Maintain a positive attitude as you try to bunny hop. It may take you weeks or months before you get the bike off the ground, let alone jump over an object. You've got to stay optimistic that it can be done.

  3. Step 3

Work on your core to train for bunny-hopping and other tricks on your BMX. Crunches are the best kind of exercise to strengthen your abdominal muscles. These muscles the ones you use to the fullest when you jump a bike. Add side crunches to your regular straight up sit-ups to strengthen the obliques, which are also vital muscle groups needed for jumping.

  4. Step 4

Practice getting one wheel up at a time. Most riders get the wheelie down pretty easily. Try riding on the back wheels for as long as you can and visualize the back wheel coming up. Then practice pulling up the back wheel by itself. Once you get the feel for each wheel, you can put them together to from a bunny hop.
