How to Become an Atheist
A person who doesn't believe in any gods or higher power of any kind is an atheist. This may seem simple, but becoming an atheist can be difficult. Atheists are routinely discriminated against by society. It takes courage for an atheist to let his lack of belief in religion or spirituality be known and face the prejudice and discrimination that can result.

Decide whether you are a strong or weak atheist. A weak atheist merely states that she doesn't believe in any gods, but a strong (or positive) atheist states that there are no gods to believe in.

Be gentle in your assertion that you're an atheist. Don't present your arguments against religion or imply that theists are misguided. Accept the beliefs of others, knowing that those beliefs work for them just as your lack of belief works for you. If you are accepting of them, they may be inclined to be accepting of yours.

Behave morally to show others that atheists know right from wrong and adhere to most of the same ethical standards as theists do.

Be firm in your desire not to be proselytized to by those who want to convert you to theism. Don't argue because you can't convince others to give up their beliefs,just as you can't be convinced. Simply end the conversation; walk away if you must.

Take part in the political process. You may have little hope of being elected to office (depending on the region of the country where you live), but you can attend city council meetings or correspond with your elected representatives. Make sure that your rights and interests as a constituent are respected.

What are the advantages of being and acting as an atheist? Being an atheist means your heart and mind have no concern with God defined as the maker of everything that is not God Himself. That is for Christians the fundamental concept of God in relation to the universe. No need for an atheist to mention that it is not only the Christian God that he does not have a belief in, that it is all gods, deities, etc., and not only the Christian God. You want to show that you are not discriminating against the Christian God, well and good, Christians should be glad to know that. But why this protestation that you don't have anything personal against specifically the Christian God? Because the Christian God is the one that is the most unpleasant for you? Or Christians are the people most unpleasant for you or to you, but on the other hand you do care to show to Christians that you don't have anything personal specifically against their God? Well, I dare to assume that God is glad to know that you don't have anything personal specifically against Him, but only against Christians, because they are the most unpleasant people for and to you. Think about that. Now, about acting as atheist, you care to show that you are not different from the rest of mankind -- specially Christians of course? Except in the matter of morality, for when it comes to morality there are acts you insist are not immoral, whereas Christians believe to be immoral. And that is the trouble with you and also with Christians, and the trouble is more disturbing and disrupting in a community where the majority uphold Christian morality in sex, in marriage, in abortion, in the sanctity of every human life, in brief, in the Ten Commandments. So, if I may observe, the reason why you are atheist is because you can thereby justify to yourself those acts of your life and lifestyle, where you are in conflict to any of the Ten Commandments and also generally the morality of Christians. That is what I observe that is the advantage if we may call it advantage for acting as atheist. Otherwise I can't see any tangible advantage, unless of course except for your intellectual socalled integrity that you do not or you have the right to not believe in God, because according to your cognitive examination of God, God does not exist, and that means a terribly lot to you. Okay, I will grant that advantage to you and you have the right to that cognitive integrity, to not have to believe in something like God for which in your cognitive examination does not exist. Think about that. And that is why you are inclined to be embittered against God, but more correctly it should be the Christians, not really their God for Whose existence you have no belief in. why are Christians always bashing us atheists, and it's way easier for us to prove that there is NO God than it is for them to prove there IS one.. ok I'm generally fine if I'm around religious people, as long as they don't force it on me.. which sadly happens all the time. but yes this post has helped a lot that I don't have to be scared to admit that I am in fact athiest -
