There are two kinds of dirt bike ramps: loading and jumping. Loading ramps reduce the effort it takes to load a dirt bike while riding ramps create maximum heights in jumping. The size of your ramp determines what you can do with it. The longer your loading ramp, the heavier the bike to be loaded. The taller the jumping ramp, the higher the jump.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Motorized dirt packer
  • Shovel
  • Water and hose
  • Backhoe
  1. Step 1

Find a place that is open and you can accelerate and stop without worry. It takes more space to accelerate than it does to stop at the end of a jump.

  2. Step 2

Dig a hole in the ground and use this dirt to build a dirt bike ramp. Many bikers think it is cool to jump over a hole. The real reason for a designing a jumping hole is it gives you the needed dirt to build your ramp.

  3. Step 3

Decide what style ramp you want—a table top ramp will require you to dig two holes since you will need twice the amount of dirt.

  4. Step 4

Extract the dirt from the holes digging 10 to 15-feet apart. Pile the dirt as high as you can in between the two holes. The deeper the holes, the higher the ramp and the more power riders will need to get to the top of the ramp.

  5. Step 5

Pounce on the dirt ramp at the top of the mound with your feet or a shovel—the firmer you pack the dirt the better the lip. A motorized pounder works great.

  6. Step 6

Make the landing ramp smaller than the take-off ramp. Compact the dirt as you did on the lip and don't make the landing ramp as steep as the take-off ramp.

  7. Step 7

Spray water on the dirt of the ramp. Make sure that your spray is steady and not strong enough to rip the packed soil apart. Test the ramp by riding slowly on both sides before you try a jump.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you pack the dirt tightly--if the ramp doesn't support the weight of you, and your dirt bike the ramp will collapse underneath you.
  • When jumping with your dirt bike, check the frame of your bike frequently.
