How to Get Ready for That Special Prom Night

Prom is one of the milestones in a high schooler's life that he will never forget. Much preparation and excitement are built around this special event. Follow the steps below to ensure that you are ready for your high school prom.

1. Purchase the dress. Visit several formal wear and department stores a month or two before the prom to look for the perfect gown. If you want your prom dress to be different than the other girls, check out stores outside your area.

2. Rent the tuxedo. Boys should also visit the formal wear store and order a tuxedo for the prom. Find out the color of your date's dress (if possible, get a swatch of cloth from the dress), so you can match your tie and cummerbund. Pick up the tux one day before the prom.

3. Order a limousine. There are typically only a few occasions in your life when you rent a limousine. Prom is one of them. Get a few friends together to go in on a limo rental for the big night. Call far in advance to ensure that you get a reservation.

4. Shop for a corsage for your female date. Ask your date if she prefers a corsage that pins on the dress or goes around her wrist. The corsage should match the colors of her dress. Go to the local flower shop and order a corsage in advance.

5. Purchase your prom tickets. Listen for announcements at your school for information on how and where to buy the tickets. Plan to buy them early if there are a limited number of seats available.
