Makeup can enhance a person's natural features and help a person gain confidence. However, the wrong makeup can detract from a person's natural beauty. Keep the following guidelines in mind to ensure that you buy the right makeup for your skin tone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose your foundation. Determine what finish you want: matte, natural or dewy. The color should blend in with your skin and look as natural as possible.

  2. Step 2

Create a natural glow with the right blush. Pinch your cheeks to determine the right color you need.

  3. Step 3

Pick a cool color eye shadow like a shade of blue or green if you have brown eyes. People with brown eyes normally have an olive complexion with yellow tones (warm color) on the skin. Stick to using warm colors only on the eyebrows if you have brown eyes.

  4. Step 4

Select warm color makeup if you have blue eyes. For example, eye shadow with bronze or brown tones is appropriate.

  5. Step 5

Use either warm or cool makeup colors if you have green eyes. This rule generally works. However, if your eye color tends to change according to what you're wearing, adjust the color to match your outfit.

  6. Step 6

Look for natural color lipsticks to wear during the day and brighter, bolder colors for evening wear or if you're going to be under artificial lighting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply two different colors of lipstick to create your favorite color.
