Step 1
Select an adhesive that does not destroy the paper or pictures in your scrapbook layout. Rubber cement has harmful chemicals that damage photographs. Elmer's glue and masking or Scotch tapes are both also harmful. Regular Elmer's glue leaves a damaging residue, and most tapes are not safe for pictures.
-
Step 2
Include photographs on your scrapbook page with acid-free adhesives such as photo corners and mounting squares. Photo corners allow you to include photos without putting adhesive directly onto the picture. Although most photo corners are clear, some are more decorative and add to your overall layout. Mounting squares add versatility by allowing you to place photographs anywhere in your layout.

Step 3
Add embellishments such as ribbons, bead and glitter with glue pens, glue tape and adhesive spray. Glue pens are best for smaller items and border or picture trims. Glue tape is handy to add glitter, beads, tags and ribbon. Cans of adhesive spray is useful for vellum and transparencies because this adhesive dries totally clear.
-
Step 4
Create a three-dimensional effect with adhesives that work best with die cuts. Adhesive dots and mounting foam are both double-sided allowing you to attach one side to a die cut and then adhere to the scrapbook page on the other side thus creating a raised three-dimensional effect.

Step 5
Make your own stickers for your scrapbook layout with adhesive sheets. Xyron makes small machines to make stickers and larger machines for larger items like cards. Refills are available for these machines.
