Ear wax is annoying, not only because it fills the ears and inhibits hearing, but because it can itch and irritate the inner ears. Trying to remove ear wax with cotton swabs or other objects, however, is dangerous. Luckily there is a quick and easy solution to your ear wax problems.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Fill an ear dropper with pure hydrogen peroxide and the lay on your side and carefully fill your ear canal with peroxide. You will feel tingling as the peroxide bubbles and eats away at the ear wax.

  2. Step 2

Allow the peroxide to rest in your ear for 1 to 2 minutes and then place a cloth over your ear. Roll over and allow your ear to drain onto the towel as you repeat the procedure with the opposite ear.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the hydrogen peroxide treatment 2 or 3 times if necessary to remove excess ear wax build up.

  4. Step 4

Use hydrogen peroxide in your ears 1 or 2 times each month to prevent excess build up of wax.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the peroxide is warmed to room temperature before using, as cold peroxide can cause discomfort and even pain.
  • Using peroxide to clean out your ears is a great way to prevent ear infections after swimming, when affected by allergies or when you feel a cold coming on. Peroxide helps to kill the microbes which cause infection.
  • Swallowing, gently pulling on the lobes and massaging the muscles around your ears helps to get the peroxide deeper into your ear canals.
  • If there is a possibility that your ear drum is ruptured, talk to a doctor before using hydrogen peroxide.
  • Never stick cotton swabs or other objects into your ears as they only push in and compact wax, making it more difficult to remove.
  • While peroxide clears bad microbes, it also kills beneficial bacteria. For that reason, you should not use a peroxide treatment more than once a week.
