Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the sofa fabric. If it is leather or polyvinyl, call a professional cleaner as this method may scorch the material and leave you with an even bigger problem. Most other materials will clean up nicely with the following steps.

    • 2

Heat up an iron to medium heat. Medium is a good setting to accomplish your goal, which is to gently melt the candle wax off the sofa but not burn the fabric. Let the iron sit for five minutes to reach the desired heat.

    • 3

Place a paper bag over the dried wax. Ensure the bag covers the entire stain so that the iron does not directly touch the fabric. Use a large grocery bag instead of a small lunch sack.

    • 4

Apply the hot iron to the bag. Gently press the iron down and move it in circles. The idea is that the wax will melt and a certain amount of it will stick to the bag. Lift the bag and see how much came off on your first pass.

    • 5

Flip the bag over and use the other side to reapply the iron and remove more wax. Repeat this step until all the candle wax is off of the sofa.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use this method to remove candle wax from a leather or polyvinyl sofa. Call a professional cleaner.
