How to Connect to WiFi DS

Two types of Nintendo consoles, the DS and the Wii, both have wireless connectivity features. The Wii is pretty straightforward with connection and set-up because Nintendo built it with the feature in mind. The DS didn't start with the feature so it can sometimes be a little tricky to set it up. Here is how to connect to Wifi with the DS.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify that you have the two items needed to connect your DS: a WiFi compatible DS game and a wireless router with WEP or less encryption. Sometimes the DS has trouble with more advanced router security.

    • 2

Insert a WiFi compatible game into the Nintendo DS and access the wireless network options screen. Each game does this a little differently so check your manual if you have trouble finding it.

    • 3

Use the options interface to set up a new wireless connection. Choose "Nintendo WiFi Connection Settings," then your first unused connection preset, then "Search for a Wireless Access Point." If everything is set up properly you should be able to find one and connect.

    • 4

Look at the color of the padlock next to your connection name. Blue means you are ready to go, red means you need to supply a password to connect (common with most home routers) and gray means your router is using security that the DS doesn't understand.

Tips & Warnings

  • The DS can be a bit finicky about solid objects blocking its signal. Always try to have a clear line of sight to your access point.
