How to Find Motivation to Exercise

Although we tend to think about motivation in terms of starting and sticking to an exercise program, people who have been exercising for a while can also find themselves in a rut and bored of their routine. Finding new motivation to take your workout to a new level can be a great challenge that will make you healthier and stronger.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Change up your workout routine. If you've been doing the same workout for more than six to eight weeks, try something new. Mixing things up will help you over plateaus.
Step2
Set new goals for yourself. It can be easy to lose your focus if you've already reached your initial goals or haven't set new ones for a while. Look for new challenges that you can work toward.
Step3
Sign up for an adventure vacation. If you are already moderately fit, an adventure vacation can be a great way to do something different. Think about hiking part of the Appalachian Trail or biking through parts of Europe. You'll have an experience that most people only dream about while you rediscover your motivation.
Step4
Start competing. Whether you want to try a body building competition or a mountain bike race, competition can push you to train harder and smarter. In many cases, you'll be expanding your comfort zone and learning new things in the process.
Step5
Hire a coach or fitness professional. A personal trainer can help you challenge yourself and fitness coaches can help you find motivation and prepare for competition. Look around until you find someone whose personality and strategies work for you.
