Jig is a style of saw that allows a woodworker to cut shapes and specialty designs. Kreg Tool Company is one jig saw manufacturer who has been producing jig saws for decades. The founder of the company created the Kreg jigs out of necessity, and they are used all over the world now.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research the types of Kreg jigs available. There are four major Kreg jigs that are available. These are considered pocket hole tools. There is the KREG JIG K3 Master system, KREG JIG K3 Standard Pack, the KREG JIG R3 and the Mini KREG JIG Kit.

  2. Step 2

Decide on the best Kreg jig for you. The mini is obviously more portable, easier to use in a home shop or small space. The other three offer all the basic and extensive tools for trim carpenters.

  3. Step 3

Consider the purchasing source. If you choose to purchase online at the Kreg site, you will receive their customer service and warranty (see Resources below). You can purchase from independent sellers, but will not get the same treatment, warranty or return policy. Though some resources, such as Amazon, do offer some safeguards and policies for the consumer to protect them from fraud.

  4. Step 4

Insure your investment. This is especially important if you are using the sets as a home-based business or side jobs. Not only may you write off the purchase of the tools, but you should insure them against theft and damage.
